And rebellion, on that large a scale, was war. All this "slavery caused secession and secession caused war" is really just a roundabout way of saying "slavery caused.

Read the Emancipation Proclaimaion, word for word. It does not free all slave in these United States, just those in the Confederate States, and if the Confederate States will return to the Union, you can keep your slaves.
